Kid's Ocean Day- Hosted by Friends of A1A May 4, 2012, 10:00a.m. & 1:00p.m.
On Friday May 4th, 2012 Friends of A1A is hosting KIDS OCEAN DAY where invited school children will participate in 27 environmental learning stations and aerial art at Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine Beach.
The event is expected to draw over 600 third, fourth & fifth graders from area elementary schools for a day of fun learning about environmental conservation. The theme for the day is “Kids Care” and the highlight will be the creation of students forming a nature mosaic sea manatee in the sand.
An aerial photo shoot will render the event most memorable. Activities feature storytelling, music, learning and fun for all 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Overall attendance is expected to far exceed last year with national media coverage.
There is still time to volunteer for the event.

Fort Matanzas Living History Day
May 12, June 2 (British Navy), July 7, August 4, September 8, October 6 -- Living History Day at Fort Matanzas. Tours are every hour on the half hour. 9:30a.m., 10:30a.m., 11:30a.m., 12:30p.m., 1:30p.m., 2:30p.m., 3:30p.m., 4:30p.m.
On the first Saturday of the month join us at Fort Matanzas and take the National Park Service's ferry to Rattlesnake Island. There you will see the 18th century fort that guarded the southern approach to St. Augustine with re-enactors demonstrating Spanish muskets and cannons. Cannon firing on all tours except 9:30 and 4:30.
A re-enactor is at the fort almost every day to tell the story of Fort Matanzas to park visitors. Musket demonstrations may be presented on Saturdays, weather and staffing permitting.

Come explore the historic markers at the oldest extant cemetery in Florida. The self-guided and docent led tours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Tolomato Cemetery, an historic cemetery is located on Cordova Street, the site of an earlier Franciscan Indian mission (Our Lady of Guadalupe of the Tolomato) in St Augustine. Burials officially ceased in 1884.
Visits are free of charge, but visitors are encouraged to offer a donation. All money goes to the preservation and restoration of the cemetery.

Low Tide Bike Ride at Anastasia State Park Anastasia State Park- May 19, 2012, 2:30p.m.
Anastasia State Park will host a “Low Tide Bike Ride” to promote physical and healthy lifestyles. This experience will give our visitors a great cardiovascular workout on one of the most remarkable beaches in Florida. Meet a Park Ranger at the Beach Store and Grill pavilion located inside the park 15 minutes prior to the event.
This Ranger led event will start with a three and a half mile low tide bike ride and bird watch. Participants will enjoy an ecology chat at Conch Island, the northern most point of the park, and then begin the return trip. Riders should be prepared for weather conditions on the beach which could be influenced by heat, cold, wind and sand. Bring at least one pint of water, bicycle, snack, binoculars, and sunscreen.
Bike rentals are available at Island Beach Store and Grill located within the park.
Admission to the park is $8 per vehicle up to 8 people, and $2 per additional passengers. Pedestrians and bicyclist admission is $2.
