Around 60 to 80 vendors participate each Wednesday morning year round from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Vendors, most local and others from as far away as Orlando, Florida display an array of produce, prepared foods, local seafood, art, crafts, jewelry and fair trade goods.

Traditional wooden boatbuilding techniques are demonstrated at The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum by the LAMP Boatworks volunteers. The Boatworks are open 9 a.m. - noon every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

 

Participation is free with admission to St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum, located at 81 Lighthouse Ave., St. Augustine.

Lightner Museum curator’s tour: Lightner Museum Curator Barry Myers will give monthly tours of the special treasures of the museum at 10 am on the first Wednesday of each month. The event will offer guests an intimate encounter with a select few of the Lightner’s eclectic relics.

 

An opportunity to meet the curator along with an interactive tour will give local residents and tourists alike an opportunity to learn the history of the building and to explore more deeply into the Museum’s collection. Tours will be tailored to those participating and will be changed based on current events and new features in the Museum, creating a unique experience each time. Tours are included in the price of admission.

From 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. re-enactors will demonstrate Spanish muskets at the fort. Weather and staff permitting.

 

Admission is free including the ferry ride to and from Rattlesnake Island.

Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays Historic Weapons Demonstrations
Castillo de San Marcos- January 25, 2013 to December 31, 2013, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

 

 

National Parks Service personnel demonstrate the weapons and relate the experiences of the Colonial Spanish soldier stationed in St. Augustine in 1740's. Demonstration times are 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. throughout the year. Firing times are subject to change depending on weather conditions and staff availability.

 

The Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fortification in the U.S., was built by the Spanish in 1672 to help protect their empire in the New World.

 

Admission is $7 for adults. Children 15 and under are free of charge but must be accompanied by an adult.

 

The Castillo is open 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. daily.

Monday & Friday Lost Ships Tour at the St. Augustine Lighthouse
January 25, 2013 to December 20, 2013, 10 a.m. & 3 p.m.

 

Mondays and Fridays

This exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour includes a multi-media presentation with one of the Lighthouse's marine archaeologists. Tour participants visit areas of the Historic Light Station that are off-limits for general admission visitors. Participants will also see recovered artifacts that are undergoing tedious cleaning and stabilization procedures undertaken by conservators. Free time will be available to see museum exhibits in the historic Keeper's House and to also climb the 165' lighthouse.

 

The lighthouse is located at 81 Lighthouse Avenue in St. Augustine.

 

Advance reservations are required.

Mondays and Fridays

This exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour includes a multi-media presentation with one of the Lighthouse's marine archaeologists. Tour participants visit areas of the Historic Light Station that are off-limits for general admission visitors. Participants will also see recovered artifacts that are undergoing tedious cleaning and stabilization procedures undertaken by conservators. Free time will be available to see museum exhibits in the historic Keeper's House and to also climb the 165' lighthouse.

 

The lighthouse is located at 81 Lighthouse Avenue in St. Augustine.

From 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. re-enactors will demonstrate Spanish muskets at the fort. Weather and staff permitting.

 

Admission is free including the ferry ride to and from Rattlesnake Island.

Castillo de San Marcos- January 25, 2013 to December 31, 2013, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

 

 

National Parks Service personnel demonstrate the weapons and relate the experiences of the Colonial Spanish soldier stationed in St. Augustine in 1740's. Demonstration times are 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. throughout the year. Firing times are subject to change depending on weather conditions and staff availability.

 

The Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fortification in the U.S., was built by the Spanish in 1672 to help protect their empire in the New World.

 

Admission is $7 for adults. Children 15 and under are free of charge but must be accompanied by an adult.

 

The Castillo is open 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. daily.

Fort Matanzas Living History Day
Fort Matanzas – May 11,  2013, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

 

Join us at Fort Matanzas and take the National Park Service's ferry to Rattlesnake Island. There you will see the18th century fort that guarded the southern approach to St. Augustine with re-enactors demonstrating Spanish muskets and cannons.

 

Cannon firings are presented on each tour of the day except for the 9:30 and 4:30 tours.

 

There are no fees to enter the park or to take the ferry to the fort. The 36-passenger ferry operates on a first come basis. The ferry leaves every hour on the half-hour and there is no charge.

 

Fort Matanzas National Monument is located on A1A south approximately 4 miles south of SR 206.

Washington Oaks Gardens State Park,
2nd Saturday each month, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

 

The Friends of Washington Oaks will be holding a plant sale on the second Saturday each month. The plant sale hours are from 10 a.m   - 2 p.m. You will find a selection of perennials, succulents, and orchids. Most of our plants for sale were propagated and grown right here in the park by our wonderful volunteers.

 

All proceeds benefit the park for enhancement of current and new facilities. Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is made up of a diverse landscape with a hardwood forest bordering the tidal marshes along the intra-coastal waterway. Within the park are ornamental gardens, hammocks, coastal scrub, beaches and marshes. This variety of plant communities accounts for the abundant wildlife here. The peaceful and tranquil setting of this biologically rich area offers the unhurried visitor an opportunity to relax, reflect, explore, discover, and wonder.

 

Admission to the park is $5 per vehicle and $2 for pedestrians or bicyclists.

Located at Alpine Groves Park, 2060 State Road 13 in Fruit Cove, the market is open each Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and features local produce, plants, homemade food products, art, crafts and much more. The market is located in a 55-acre park bordered on the west by the St. Johns River.

Come experience the lovely smells, sights and sounds of tending roses. This workshop will take place next to the greenhouse during the Friends of Washington Oaks Second Saturday Plant Sale.

Castillo de San Marcos- January 25, 2013 to December 31, 2013, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

 

 

National Parks Service personnel demonstrate the weapons and relate the experiences of the Colonial Spanish soldier stationed in St. Augustine in 1740's. Demonstration times are 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. throughout the year. Firing times are subject to change depending on weather conditions and staff availability.

 

The Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fortification in the U.S., was built by the Spanish in 1672 to help protect their empire in the New World.

 

Admission is $7 for adults. Children 15 and under are free of charge but must be accompanied by an adult.

 

The Castillo is open 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. daily.

This exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour includes a multi-media presentation with one of the Lighthouse's marine archaeologists. Tour participants visit areas of the Historic Light Station that are off-limits for general admission visitors. Participants will also see recovered artifacts that are undergoing tedious cleaning and stabilization procedures undertaken by conservators. Free time will be available to see museum exhibits in the historic Keeper's House and to also climb the 165' lighthouse.

 

The lighthouse is located at 81 Lighthouse Avenue in St. Augustine.

Join GTM Research Reserve volunteers Rick and Roz Edwards for a beach walk at the Guana South beach location from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Learn about the animals that call the beach their home as well as seashells and other interesting facts. This is a “Beaches 101” experience that the entire family will enjoy.

 

There is a $3/per vehicle parking fee. After the walk, visit the GTM Research Reserve Environmental Education Center (EEC) or enjoy our many miles of trails. The EEC is located at 505 Guana River Road, Ponte Vedra Beach FL 32082.

This NEW event is open to photographers at every level of expertise. Three photo spots will be designated within the Park each month with specific assignments. Those interested in participating will receive a map of the gardens and the challenge photo spots at the Ranger Station or from a volunteer in the main garden parking lot on the day of the event. The challenge rules and a photo release will be included with the map.

 

There will be volunteers available at the photo spot locations to assist photographers from 9 a.m. until noon, however, participants may continue to photograph and complete the assignments throughout the day.

 

Each photographer may submit two 3X5 photographs, in JPEG format to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. St. Augustine is one of only four Florida port stops for the Viva Florida 500 Voyage of El Galeón as it sails a historic route similar to Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León's 500 years ago. The ship set sail from Puerto Rico on April 1 and will spend 12 days in St. Augustine May 23 - June 3.

 

El Galeón is a 170 foot, 495 ton, authentic wooden replica of a galleon that was part of Spain's West Indies fleet. The Viva Florida 500 Voyage will call on ports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Cape Canaveral and St. Augustine as part of the state's Quincentenary commemorations.

 

While in port, the ships decks will be open to public visits. Visitors will have the chance to learn about the history that began 500 years ago while admiring the craftsmanship and grandeur of these galleons that reached Florida's coast centuries ago.

Wednesdays and Fridays Musket Firing Demonstrations at Fort Matanzas National Monument

Ongoing to December 20, 2013- 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

 

On most Wednesdays and Saturdays, join us for historic weapons demonstrations at Fort Matanzas as you take the ferry to the fort and experience daily military life at Fort Matanzas, the 18th century Spanish fort that guarded the southern approach to St. Augustine. From 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. re-enactors will demonstrate Spanish muskets at the fort. Weather and staff permitting.

 

Admission is free including the ferry ride to and from Rattlesnake Island.

 

Fort Matanzas National Monument is located on A1A at the south end of Anastasia Island approximately 15 miles south of St. Augustine.

St. Augustine is one of only four Florida port stops for the Viva Florida 500 Voyage of El Galeón as it sails a historic route similar to Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León's 500 years ago. The ship set sail from Puerto Rico on April 1 and will spend 12 days in St. Augustine May 23 - June 3.

 

El Galeón is a 170 foot, 495 ton, authentic wooden replica of a galleon that was part of Spain's West Indies fleet. The Viva Florida 500 Voyage will call on ports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Cape Canaveral and St. Augustine as part of the state's Quincentenary commemorations.

 

While in port, the ships decks will be open to public visits. Visitors will have the chance to learn about the history that began 500 years ago while admiring the craftsmanship and grandeur of these galleons that reached Florida's coast centuries ago.

 

Tickets for El Galeón are available at www.vivaflorida.org. The ship will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the St. Augustine City Marina.

Walk on the Wild Side at Anastasia State Park
on the last Saturday of each month, 9 a.m.

 

Join a Park Ranger at 9:00 a.m.on the last Saturday of each month at Anastasia State Park to observe what life is like on the wild side. This walk starts out with a leisurely stroll through the Maritime Hammock, continuing along Salt Run, our estuarine habitat, then having an intermission and rest room break at the Windsurf Pavilion. The walk will continue from there along the boardwalk over the salt marsh, through the sand dunes, and finishing on the shoreline.

 

Participants of the walk will discover an assortment of flora and fauna that are the makeup of the fabulous ecosystems of Anastasia, and possibly increase their knowledge of some history of the park and the surrounding area.

 

The full length of the walk is 2.5 miles round trip. Participants may chose to only walk the first half to Windsurf to shorten the length of the walk if preferred. Suggested items to bring are binoculars, comfortable walking shoes, camera, drinking water, bug spray, and sunscreen.

 

This program is free with paid park admission. Meet at the Ranger Station.

National Parks Service personnel demonstrate the weapons and relate the experiences of the Colonial Spanish soldier stationed in St. Augustine in 1740's. Demonstration times are 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. throughout the year. Firing times are subject to change depending on weather conditions and staff availability.

 

The Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fortification in the U.S., was built by the Spanish in 1672 to help protect their empire in the New World.

 

Admission is $7 for adults. Children 15 and under are free of charge but must be accompanied by an adult.

 

The Castillo is open 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. daily.

Tour participants visit areas of the Historic Light Station that are off-limits for general admission visitors. Participants will also see recovered artifacts that are undergoing tedious cleaning and stabilization procedures undertaken by conservators. Free time will be available to see museum exhibits in the historic Keeper's House and to also climb the 165' lighthouse.

 

The lighthouse is located at 81 Lighthouse Avenue in St. Augustine.

On most Wednesdays and Saturdays, join us for historic weapons demonstrations at Fort Matanzas as you take the ferry to the fort and experience daily military life at Fort Matanzas, the 18th century Spanish fort that guarded the southern approach to St. Augustine. From 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. re-enactors will demonstrate Spanish muskets at the fort. Weather and staff permitting.

 

Admission is free including the ferry ride to and from Rattlesnake Island.

 

Fort Matanzas National Monument is located on A1A at the south end of Anastasia Island approximately 15 miles south of St. Augustine.

El Galeón Visits St. Augustine May 23- June 3

 

St. Augustine is one of only four Florida port stops for the Viva Florida 500 Voyage of El Galeón as it sails a historic route similar to Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León's 500 years ago. The ship set sail from Puerto Rico on April 1 and will spend 12 days in St. Augustine May 23 - June 3.

 

El Galeón is a 170 foot, 495 ton, authentic wooden replica of a galleon that was part of Spain's West Indies fleet. The Viva Florida 500 Voyage will call on ports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Cape Canaveral and St. Augustine as part of the state's Quincentenary commemorations.

 

While in port, the ships decks will be open to public visits. Visitors will have the chance to learn about the history that began 500 years ago while admiring the craftsmanship and grandeur of these galleons that reached Florida's coast centuries ago.

 

Tickets for El Galeón are available at www.vivaflorida.org. The ship will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the St. Augustine City Marina.

 

Tickets are $8 for children age 12 and under and $15 for adults.

Castillo de San Marcos- January 25, 2013 to December 31, 2013, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

 

 

National Parks Service personnel demonstrate the weapons and relate the experiences of the Colonial Spanish soldier stationed in St. Augustine in 1740's. Demonstration times are 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. throughout the year. Firing times are subject to change depending on weather conditions and staff availability.

 

The Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fortification in the U.S., was built by the Spanish in 1672 to help protect their empire in the New World.

 

Admission is $7 for adults. Children 15 and under are free of charge but must be accompanied by an adult.

 

The Castillo is open 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. daily.

This exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour includes a multi-media presentation with one of the Lighthouse's marine archaeologists. Tour participants visit areas of the Historic Light Station that are off-limits for general admission visitors. Participants will also see recovered artifacts that are undergoing tedious cleaning and stabilization procedures undertaken by conservators. Free time will be available to see museum exhibits in the historic Keeper's House and to also climb the 165' lighthouse.

 

The lighthouse is located at 81 Lighthouse Avenue in St. Augustine.

 

Advance reservations are required.
